The Wilderness Society – Membership

Members are the lifeblood of the Wilderness Society. As well as being major contributors to our campaigns and our funding, they are a vital part of our governance.  Everything the Wilderness Society does is done on behalf of and ultimately accountable to our members.

All individual members of the Wilderness Society are members of The Wilderness Society Inc.  Many, including almost all who have joined since 2007, are also members of their local TWS organisation (TWS Western Australia, TWS South Australia, TWS Tasmania, TWS Victoria, TWS Sydney, TWS Newcastle or TWS Queensland). Since 2007, membership forms have been applications to join both organisations.

If you are a TWS member and wish to become a member of your local TWS organisation as well as TWS Inc, please contact our membership office on 1800 030 641 or members@wilderness.org.au. It’s free and quick.

To check whether you are a member of your local TWS organisation, please contact our membership office.

To join TWS Inc and your local organisation, see www.wilderness.org.au/join or contact our membership office.

As a member of TWS Inc you are entitled and encouraged to attend the TWS Inc Annual General Meeting (AGM), usually held in October or November.  Constitutional amendments passed in December 2010 ensure that members are notified in writing, by post or email, at least 49 days before the meeting. The Annual General Meeting elects the Committee of Management and considers the annual reports.  It is the opportunity for members to ask questions of their committee. See www.wilderness.org.au/agm.

As a member of your local organisation you are also entitled and encouraged to attend its AGM. Please contact your local Campaign Centre or our membership office to find out about your local AGM.

Membership benefits:
•    Regular updates on how your contributions are making a difference for wilderness and wildlife (you can specify which, if any, of these updates you receive)
•    Environmental and campaign updates through our monthly online newsletter WildNews and biannual magazine Wilderness News
•    Voting rights at our Annual General Meetings
•    10% discount on Wilderness Society merchandise
•    The opportunity to get further involved and volunteer if you choose to

You are also encouraged to become a volunteer at your local Campaign Centre. See www.wilderness.org.au/act-now/volunteer

As a member you play a vital part in our campaigns to protect our wild places. It is only with the help and support of members around the country that we have managed to protect wonderful places like Tasmania’s Franklin river, Queensland’s tropical rainforests, WA’s Ningaloo Reef and other natural icons around Australia.
