Message from our Executive Director, Alec Marr

A sincere thank you for your interest and support for The Wilderness Society’s Forever Wild Bequest program. Even thinking about leaving a bequest towards protecting our environment is extremely admirable. As you increase your level of commitment by leaving a gift in your Will, you are personally making a huge difference to the future of Australia’s wilderness and wildlife.
I have been with The Wilderness Society for 20 years because it is one of the few environmental organisations that will work across the spectrum and use every peaceful means possible to protect Australia’s wild places.
The strength of The Wilderness Society’s success is the rare combination of big picture strategic analysis and ground breaking science, through to community campaigning, corporate campaigning, education, political lobbying and direct action where necessary.
The Wilderness Society has helped to protect more than eight and a half million hectares of precious wilderness over the past 30 years, and helped end broad-scale land clearing in Queensland – Australia’s biggest ever gain both for wildlife protection and reduction in carbon pollution.
Today our successes are still driven by the same values of passion and commitment that motivated the community in our first campaign to save the Franklin River. We believe in the power of people to make change, and that by empowering people and working together we do make a difference.
Today, WildCountry is our bold, longterm vision for a healthy world, full of rich and diverse life that ensures our children and grandchildren can share in what we enjoy today. It is a big-picture, science-based plan, working with community groups and governments to protect the best of what’s left of our magnificent wilderness, to restore and reconnect important areas, and build resilience into our landscapes.
The Forever Wild bequest program now gives us hope that funding for WildCountry will remain for generations to come and ensure that The Wilderness Society will remain stronger than ever as the challenges to our environment grow.
Unlike many other environmental organisations, The Wilderness Society is independent, nationwide, self-funded and not-for-profit – which means our success in ensuring a healthy environment is entirely thanks to the support and commitment of people like you. This gives us more freedom to campaign for the specific wilderness that most needs our help.
Your bequest to The Wilderness Society will provide ongoing funding for WildCountry and help to ensure the long-term health of our climate, wildlife and future generations. Thank you so much for considering remembering wilderness in your Will.
Your Sincerely,
Alec Marr
Executive Director
