Since 1976 when a courageous group of people in Tasmania joined together to stop the flooding of the Franklin River in Tasmania’s south-west wilderness, volunteers have been the life-force of our campaigns.

Over 30 years, thousands of Australians have helped to protect millions of hectares of irreplaceable wilderness around the country.

The Wilderness Society's strength and success are largely thanks to their passion and commitment.

The Wilderness Society is community-based and open to everyone: find out more about how you can use your skills to help save the planet. More >>

"The Wilderness Society is insistent, obstinate, unrelenting, but that's their role. They're voluntary conservationists and their role in delivering great conservation decisions can't be overlooked."
