Northern Territory's Flatback Turtles - Unprotected

The Wilderness Society Archive - This page is over one year old. Links and content may no longer be accurate.

Last month the Wilderness Society was fortunate to participate in flatback turtle (Natator depressus) surveying with the Lianthawirriyarra Sea Rangers, Traditional owners and scientists on West Island.

West Island, SE of Darwin, is remote, beautiful and is home to the amazing flatback turtles.  View photos of this field trip via Facebook.

It is alarming that the NT Government have failed to adequately protect this ancient marine reptile.  Please contact the NT’s environment Minister Karl Hampton (email: karl.hampton@nt.gov.au or phone: (08) 8901 4053) and tell him to protect flatback turtles NOW by establishing a network of marine sanctuaries!
