Have your say on the protection of the Cobboboonee region of South-West Victoria this week - a week that sees the final week of submissions on the proposed area of protection for this magnificent area.

It's urgent that you make your submission this week, as submissions are due on Friday 27 July 2007.

The Wilderness Society is urging you to make a submission to the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) on the protection of this magnificent forest.

It's easy to do - download and print out the DSE submission document and our guidelines for your submission, then fill out your submission and mail post paid before the end of this week.

Please add to the suggested points with your own ideas and knowledge to complete your submission. You will need to answer the submission questions, as well as fill out the area on the map you believe needs to be protected in a proposed National Park.

This area of Victoria is severely under represented in conservation reserves. In this time of climate change, what is really needed is for the whole Cobboboonee forest to be protected as the Cobboboonee National Park.

The Victorian State Government, however, has also promised an area of Forest Park, which gives less protection to flora and fauna, and we believe this would be best located in the southern part of the Cobboboonee, between Holmes and Elbow Ford Rd, south of Gorae Rd, and bordering on Nelson Road. You will be able to see this area more clearly in the attached DSE submission document.

Please look at the information and make up your own mind. We urge you to make a submission to the DSE and encourage the Government to protect the whole of the Cobboboonee forest in a National Park.

Remember, submissions close on Friday 27 July 2007, so you will need to mail your submission this week.
