What motivated you to originally apply for the job?
“Working directly for an NGO” – Emily
You will get to work directly for the charity and know that the money you raise will go straight back to TWS. Know that you are making a direct impact to the organisation.
What do you most enjoy about the job?
“Working with passionate, like-minded people” – Emily
Every week we have a team meeting where we get together and share skills and news. We hold regular social events like BBQ’s, pub visits and movies for those who wish to participate. It’s great – we all are working together to make a difference to this world! This is a great way to meet new like-minded friends.
What have been your major achievements?
“Having great feedback from staff I have helped. Seen/helped others get over hurdles” – Emily
At the Wilderness Society (TWS) coaching sessions and skills based workshops are held regularly along with weekly campaign updates by one of our inspiring community campaigners. If you have a good proactive attitude and are keen to learn, progression can be fast and we will help you all the way. You can work your way from a Fundraiser to a Coordinator, to a State Manager role and be responsible for heading the states fundraising teams.
What skills have you obtained?
“Effective listening”- Emily
The skill set you obtain while working as a fundraiser make you a very capable, confident and employable candidate. Listening, negotiation and communication skills are just a few skills you will strengthen and learn while working as a fundraiser.
Every day you will get to work with a fantastic bunch of people. You meet the most amazing people out in the community from the most diverse of backgrounds.
What challenges have you faced & how have you overcome them?
“People being negative, I have overcome this by maintaining faith that I will meet someone wonderful. I always stay positive”- Emily
What motivates you within this position?
“Aiding and supporting conservation and restoration of our environment. The message and being part of the solution” – Emily
Being able to empower people by education is a very rewarding experience. Every day you have the opportunity to empower people by inspiring and educating the public and directly helping to protect, conserve and restore our environment.
