Forever Wild event - Dandenongs, Victoria, July 20, 2008

Marybrooke, National Trust Mansion

On Sunday 20 July, The Wilderness Society held its first Forever Wild event at the foot of the Dandenongs, close to the beautiful Sherbrooke forest.  A huge thank you to all the supporters who joined us for a very informative, enjoyable afternoon.

Gavan McFadzean, our Victorian Campaign Manager, gave a presentation on the organisation’s long term goals and visions, and the journey that led The Wilderness Society to its WildCountry vision.

This was a fantastic presentation for those interested in the background, successes and long term goals of the organisation that will be supported by the Forever Wild bequest program for years to come.

Amelia Young, our Victorian Forest Campaigner, gave a presentation titled ‘Forests: the forgotten solution to Climate Change’. This was a wonderful update on our current climate change and forest campaign, outlining new scientific findings that emphasise just how much forests have been underestimated as vital carbon banks.

Amelia also discussed the action The Wilderness Society is taking to ensure the role of Australia’s and the world’s forests is recognised in the next international climate change agreement.

Our WildCountry photo display was exhibited, and enjoyed by all guests. It will be making its way around the country at our Forever Wild events.

It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet all the guests who came along to be informed and updated on the progress of WildCountry and Forever Wild, our bequest program that is growing to become the life line of the organisation.
