19th September 2008
The Wilderness Society has invited Gunns to attend ‘Footsteps for a pulp mill free future’ following their criticism of the event. Gunns has publicly criticised the event and accused The Wilderness Society of misinformation before the event has even occurred.
“We invite Gunns and their sustainability manager Calton Frame to attend this weekends events show casing the Tamar Valley which will explore the impacts that the proposed pulp mill will have,” said Mr Paul Oosting pulp mill campaigner for The Wilderness Society.
“This is a great opportunity for Gunns and the public to see the forests that will be destroyed by the pulp mill, learn about the impact that will have on climate change and meet the community and business owners of the Tamar Valley,” said Mr Oosting.
“We are encouraging the public to come along over the weekend and see for themselves what is at stake from Gunns’ pulp mill. Tomorrow a walk begins at 10am from Gravelly Bech on the West Tamar which will be a great chance for everyone to experience the local wildlife and enjoy fresh local produce at stop offs vineyards,” said Mr Oosting.
On Sunday the public are invited to meet at 10am at the Cataract Gorge and begin a stop-off driving tour through the Tamar Valley. The day culminates in a barbecue with locally grown produce cooked by local farmers and people will hear from Peter Cundall and other locals about their ongoing fight against the pulp mill.
