Marine Campaign Publicity Assistants Needed!
The Wilderness Society (SA) Inc (TWSSA) is looking for volunteers who are interested in becoming Marine Campaign Publicity Assistants.
The role of volunteer Marine Campaign Publicity Assistants is to support the achievement of campaign goals by enhancing the public profile of our marine campaign, demonstrating community support for marine parks and encouraging greater community engagement.
Volunteer Publicity Assistants will work in close collaboration with The Wilderness Society SA’s Community and Marine Campaigners and at times, the Southern Wilderness Action Group (SWAG). Marine Campaign Publicity Assistants will primarily work from our CBD Campaign Centre but some tasks can be undertaken from home. Some on foot travel may be required to distribute materials around the CBD or in your local area.
Keys tasks and responsibilities:
- Distribute campaign materials to target audiences
- Assist in building TWSSA’s network of contacts via database entry and maintenance
- Assist in the building and maintenance of TWSSA's marine photo gallery
- Help to organise and participate in community engagement activities including information stalls, peaceful and creative protests and other campaign events.
- Use the media to demonstrate community support for marine parks through letters to the editor, talkback radio and blogging.
Skills Required:
- Good people skills (comfortable speaking to the public about our campaign)
- Basic computer skills (word & excel) and web literacy
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Commitment to values and purpose of The Wilderness Society
An interest or knowledge in the marine environment and marine conservation is desirable.
Time Commitment Required
We will have an ongoing need for volunteer Marine Campaign Publicity Assistants over the coming 12-24 months, but if you can only help out for a couple of months, that’s ok too! How often you choose to volunteer and for how long is up to you, but a regular commitment of at least 2-3 hours a fortnight would be really helpful.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________The Wilderness Society (TWS) is a not for profit community based conservation organisation dedicated to the long term protection and restoration of wilderness and wildlife under our ‘WildCountry’ vision for Australia.
TWS was established in 1976 to help save the Franklin River and has since played an important role in many of Australia’s great conservation campaigns. Kakadu, the Daintree, SW Tasmanian Wilderness, the forests of Eastern and Western Australia, Ningaloo Reef and the wilderness of Antarctica are among the many places TWS has helped save.
The Wilderness Society (SA) Inc (TWSSA) campaigns primarily for the protection of South Australian wilderness but is actively engaged in implementing the Wilderness Society’s national ‘WildCountry’ vision: a continent-wide, science-based conservation approach to protecting Australia's native flora and fauna and their habitats for the long term.
TWSSA has a proud record of involvement in marine conservation and is committed to protecting the marine and coastal environments of SA through our established and successful marine campaign. Our campaign is focused on promoting a network of large marine sanctuaries (‘no-take’ reserves) in State and Commonwealth waters as the best scientifically proven way of conserving our unique marine life in the face of climate change and other human impacts.
TWS Organisational Purpose:
Protect, promote and restore wilderness and natural processes across Australia for the survival and ongoing evolution of life on Earth.
TWS Organisational Values:
- Passion for our purpose (courage, strength of conviction, determination)
- The power of people to make change
- Organisational independence and integrity
- Compassion (valuing and supporting our people, respecting and having integrity in dealing with others)
- Commitment to success in protecting the environment (winning immediate campaigns and achieving long term change)
