- Prue Barnard on the Thorsbone Trail at Hinchinbrook Island
We are bringing our WildCountry vision to the marine wonderland of Northern Australia, where we are supporting the Australian Marine Conservation Society and Environment Conservation Northern Territory in funding a joint Northern Marine Campaigner, Prue Barnard. Prue is based in Darwin and is actively campaigning for greater protection of Australia’s northern waters by advocating for the establishment of fully protected marine parks and sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
Prue has been passionate about the marine environment from a young age. Prue's interest developed while living on the east coast of Canada where she observed the long-term environmental and social consequences of the collapse of the cod fishery. Since returning to Australia in 1999, Prue has dedicated her time to help protect our precious oceans. She has a Bachelor of Administration (Marine Resources), has worked for the South-East Asian Fisheries Centre in Thailand and more recently for the Australian Marine & Coastal Community Network.
