Burning Native Forests is NOT Renewable Energy
Burning the homes of Australia's native wildlife is NOT renewable energy. Biomass energy from native forests is likely to make greenhouse gas emissions worse rather than better and is a threat to the sustainability of Australia's native forests.
Genuine renewable energy needs to be greatly expanded if the world is to have any chance of avoiding the most dangerous impacts of climate change. Wind and solar energy offer the promise of sustainable energy for future generations.
An expansion of the Federal Government's current 2% Mandatory Renewable Energy Target legislation to 10% would kick start Australia's progress to a renewable energy future. However, the use of native forest bioenergy should not be eligable to meet the target. Our native forest can not stand another assault on their sustainability that their use in bioenergy will generate.
