Protect our climateIt's no secret that climate change is the biggest threat to our planet right now and in the future. Massive changes are being unleashed that are stressing the already delicate balance of life.

Australia's native forests and bushlands are our most powerful ally in the fight to minimise the impacts of climate change. They draw significant amounts of carbon out of the atmosphere and store it safely in their trunk, roots and soil.

In addition to campaigning for protection of the crucial forests that remain, we partner with other environmental groups to work on revegetation – restoring damaged landscapes so that they can fulfill their role as carbon stores.

Protecting our forests to reduce the impacts of climate change is no longer just an option – it's a necessity.

A recent scientific report produced by the Australian National University demonstrates that Australia's south-eastern forests are among the most carbon-rich in the world, and by keeping them in the ground we keep billions of tonnes of carbon out of our atmosphere. If we don't protect them, all of this carbon will be released back into the atmosphere, increasing the already frightening impacts of climate change.

By helping to protect our climate with a gift of $100 or more, you can help us achieve our ultimate goal – to leave a safe environment, and healthy, diverse, living world to our children and grandchildren.

Where the money goes from Wilderness GiftsYour 'Gift to the Wilderness' will go directly towards The Wilderness Society's work to protect our environment including the campaign your gift represents.

For example, through your 'Protecting a Forest' gift you will be supporting our nationwide campaigns to protect and restore Australia's wilderness, including our magnificent and carbon storing forests. With your help, The Wilderness Society works to protect areas that are significant to nature and to our climate – some of which are under serious threat.

Through your 'Protect a Whale' gift, you will be supporting our campaigns, including our Marine campaigns that aim to protect the Humpback Whale calving grounds off the Kimberley coast in Western Australia, and to have more marine protected areas created in South Australia and New South Wales. With your purchase, you can help create marine parks around Australia's coast and protect Australia's amazing marine life from the threat of over-fishing, mining and industrial development.

In addition, your gift will help tackle climate change, and protect our natural environment and the creatures with whom we share it.
