$52,208.64 per annum pro rata + superannuation
Hours:
0.6 FTE or 3 days per week on a 1 year contract, with the possibility of extension, subject to performance review and funding availability.

The Wilderness Society Vic Campaign Manager and The Wilderness Society Vic Committee of Management.
The Position
The purpose of the Victorian Community Campaigner is to lead the community engagement and volunteer coordination component of our Victorian Forest Campaign by:
1. Implementing strategies to raise community support for the protection of Victoria’s native forests, through forums, events, presentations and creative actions.
2. Recruit, promote and coordinate volunteer engagement in Victorian forest campaign by providing a range of strategically beneficial avenues for people to get involved.
The Victorian Community Campaigner position will be based at the Melbourne Campaign Centre and will be required to regularly undertake activities in different locations throughout Melbourne. The successful applicant will need a current driver’s licence and access to private transport.
This position will work in collaboration with the Victorian campaigns team and in particular with the other Victorian Community Campaigner.
Primary tasks and responsibilities:
1. Work as part of the Victorian campaigns team to develop and implement strategies and activities to stimulate community support for the protection of Victoria’s forests.
2. Ensure that The Wilderness Society Victoria is proactively engaged regularly and effectively with the wider community through a program of information stalls, displays, presentations and public meetings.
3. Take the lead role in organising the volunteer coordination components of the Victorian forest campaign, including facilitation and organisation of the weekly Wilderness Action Group (WAG) meetings; and the recruitment and training of new volunteers and activists.
4. Utilise social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace to further raise the Victorian forest campaign profile.
5. To organise forums and other events to generate public and stakeholder engagement and information exchange on how to advance protection of Victoria’s old growth forests.
6. To maintain and build on The Wilderness Society’s network of contacts which include a diverse variety of like-minded community organisations.
7. To assist in the development of communications materials in advocating for conservation, including writing content for volunteer and supporter updates.
8. To assist with day to day duties in the office such as responding to requests for information and database maintenance.
9. To participate in the Community Campaigns Working Group.
Essential selection criteria:
- Passion for The Wilderness Society’s mission
- Self motivated with strong sense of initiative and ability to work unsupervised
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting, motivating, coordinating and allocating tasks to a diverse group of supporters
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in public speaking
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills and web literacy
- Experience in mass marketing, networking and e-communications
- Ability to quickly educate oneself to a base level of understanding of the issues involved in the Victorian forest debate
- Ability to work under pressure, with good time management skills
- Ability to work flexible work hours, including weekends.
- Driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
