Sustainable transport options to the Upper Florentine for the Walk Against Warming
Upper Florentine Valley, 12 December 2009.
Please use sustainable transport when travelling to the Upper Florentine for the Walk Against Warming. There are a number of sustainable transport options for you to choose from. Take a bus, carpool, or ride a bike.
Take a bus
There is limited car parking space in the Upper Florentine so it will be much easier (and more climate-friendly) for as many people as possible to travel by bus.
Please note there will be some costs involved in travelling by bus. Our aim is to make this community event as accessible as possible, and we will be holding fundraising events to reduce the costs of travelling by bus. If the cost of transport will be an issue for you, please contact us and we will do our best to help in any way we can.
Buses from Hobart
There will be two departure times from Hobart. The 8:00am departure will give you time to enjoy a guided walk along Timbs Track before the Walk Against Warming. The 9:30am departure will get you to the Upper Florentine in time for the Walk Against Warming.
Tickets cost $20 return. All buses will leave the Upper Florentine after the event at 3.30pm.
Please note: there are limited seats left on these buses and they are selling fast. Buy your ticket from the Wilderness Society Shop at Salamanca, phone (03) 6234 9370.
Car-pooling
If you are traveling by car please don’t arrive with empty seats. If you want to carpool, whether you’re a driver or a passenger, you can register online at www.coolpooltas.com.au
If this is your first time using Cool Pool Tas, you will find it helpful to read 'How it works' which you will find under the 'About the Cool Pool' tab.
Please note: travel costs when carpooling should be shared by the driver and passengers. There is information about how to negotiate this on the Cool Pool Tas website.
Riding Bicycles
If you want to reduce your Walk Against Warming carbon footprint to zero, then why not ride your bike. There is a bike ride planned which anyone and everyone is encouraged to join. The bike team will be arriving in the Upper Florentine on Friday Night or early Saturday morning.
Please note: there are a number of hills that you will need to ascend and descend on route to the Upper Florentine.
For more information and to register for the bike team email Jess at Environment Tasmania or phone (03) 6224 6319.
