The Wilderness Society Queensland Festivals' Fun!

The Wilderness Society Archive - This page is over one year old. Links and content may no longer be accurate.

The Wilderness Society Queensland (TWSQ) has had a busy time over the festive holiday season with back to back festivals and events. TWSQ staff and volunteers braved a week of rain, mud, mozzies, heat and flies at our stall at the Woodford Folk Festival, amongst some great music and lots of festival goers.

It proved easy to get signatures for our new 'World Heritage for Cape York' petition, 3500 of them in fact, which will be forwarded to the Qld Environment Minister, reminding the Government of their commitment to progressing World Heritage protection for Cape York. We also chatted with many festival goers about The Wilderness Society's inspiring campaigns, sold most of our new range of tshirts, did the 'Cape York conga' as well as having the occasional random dancing moment. Big thanks to the Woodford Folk Festival for a great event and also to all the people who signed our petition.

Straight back from Woodford and we were off to the Brisbane two-day festival, Sunset Sounds. This year, The Wilderness Society Qld organised more than 90 volunteers to clean up rubbish over the two day event and our clean up crew did a fantastic job in keeping the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and Riverstage rubbish-free. TWSQ volunteers encouraged the festival-goers to keep the venue spick and span while volunteers at our stall shared how important it is to keep our wilderness areas pristine. A big thanks to Sunset Sounds for partnering with The Wilderness Society Qld for this awesome festival and for helping to promote our Cape York campaign.

It doesn't stop there as the following week, TWSQ had a stall at the John Butler Trio gig in Brisbane and the Big Day Out at the Gold Coast. Lots of names were added to our petition and more and more music lovers in Queensland are now supporting our 'World Heritage for Cape York' campaign. The Wilderness Society attended the Big Day Out all around the country and much fun was had watching festival-goers peddling hard on bikes to charge their mobile phones, oh, and promoting our great campaigns around Australia!

Thanks to all the festivals, staff and hard working TWSQ volunteers that made these events such fun and a great success.
