Trees and climate change
Vegetation - our natural ally
- As bad as transport. Logging and landclearing emit as much greenhouse gas as our road, rail, sea and air traffic combined.
Often forgotten is our natural ally in fighting climate change - vegetation. Of the seven solutions to climate change, this is the one that The Wilderness Society is most strongly focussed on.
Protecting Australia's forests and bushlands is one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways of reducing our greenhouse emissions. This is because the annual emissions from logging and land clearing in Australia are so large that they more than equal Australia's entire domestic transport sector.

Earth's climate by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, effectively helping to control global temperatures.
Climate and wildlife
- Forests protect our wildlife as well as our climate.
Not only do forests and bushlands protect our climate, they protect our wildlife as well.
Australia's rainforests, eucalypt forests and bushlands are some of the most biodiverse locations on the planet.
Climate change will threaten many of our precious animals and plants. We can help them, and protect our climate as well. That's why The Wilderness Society is working towards protecting and restoring Australia's forests and bushlands.
