Koalas go wild in political party headquarters - Sydney

While most of our politicians seem to be taking a backseat on environment policies this election, the Wilderness Society has been livening up Labor and Coalition campaign headquarters with environment-themed entertainment in Sydney.

Last week Labor and Liberal party headquarters had front row seats for the Wilderness Choir with accompanying koala and drummer which brought a bit of life back into the lacklustre party rooms.

The Wilderness Society made unannounced visits to campaign offices of both the Labor and Liberal Parties in Sydney, with the loud, harmonious message to, “Say no to burning our forests for electricity”.

The Wilderness Society is asking the leaders of the major political parties to ban the burning of native forests and woodlands for power Australia-wide, and to rescind the decision which allows companies to earn renewable energy certificates by burning our native forests.

The Assistant National Secretary of The Labor Party, Nick Martin greeted the intrusion with anxious good humour and accepted a letter to Prime Minister Julia Gillard detailing environmental concerns about Australia's forests and wildlife.

Liberal staffers were rather less accommodating and called Kings Cross police who interviewed the choir before allowing them to proceed.
