Community Conversations about Tasmania's forests
For decades now, there has been growing public support for forest protection, yet successive governments have failed to deliver a solution. But there is a positive way forward that delivers both environmental protection and a healthy economy.
Tasmania needs to find this new direction, to resolve the debate and heal community wounds. That’s why The Wilderness Society is holding a series of ‘community conversations’.

Beginning in Westerway, New Norfolk and Hobart, (with more to follow) these community events can help you find out more about the forestry debate and contribute to the solution. Be part of a new chapter of positive dialogue between the community, conservation and industry stakeholders, and government.
A logging industry representative has been invited to speak at each event, sharing the stage with The Wilderness Society and answering questions from the floor. Premier David Bartlett has also been invited to each event.
And the public will be given an opportunity to give their number one idea for a way forward. These suggestions will be delivered to the Premier when parliament resumes.
