Rally for the Tarkine

postponed rally

PLEASE NOTE: 'Rally for the Tarkine' has been postponed until early next year (date to be confirmed). This is a difficult but necessary decision made to allow Tasmanians to focus on discussion and debate about the Tasmanian Forest Agreement in the lead up to an important vote in the Tasmanian Legislative Council on the 11 December 2012.

Join us in Hobart on Sunday 9 December for a day of fun and awareness-raising to protect the Tarkine!

An inspiration to all who visit it, Tasmania's Tarkine wilderness is home to some of the most important temperate rainforest left on Earth. But mining companies have plans to change all that by strip- and open-cut mining the Tarkine, destroying the region's Word-Heritage values forever.

That's why we're inviting you to stand up for the Tarkine! Learn about the immediate threats posed to the Tarkine by open-cut mining, and find out what you can do to help protect this globally significant wilderness for future generations.

Keynote speakers include:

Bob Brown (Wilderness Society co-founder, former leader of the Australian Greens, and Tarkine Coaltion patron)
Vica Bayley (Wilderness Society Tasmanian Campaign Manager)
Christine Milne (Current leader of the Australian Greens)
Scott Jordan (Tarkine National Coalition)
Dyan Summers (Aboriginal elder from Northern Tasmania)

Event details:

When: 12 noon, Sunday 9 December, 2012.
Where: Parliament Lawns, Hobart, Tasmania.
For further details: Contact Liz Johnstone via email or on (03) 6281 1930.

You can also RSVP and share this event via our Facebook page.

See the amazing banner action that recently took place in the Tarkine.

And if you haven't yet done so, please sign our petition to keep Venture Minerals out of the Tarkine.

Every voice counts in our pursuit to save the Tarkine, so please mark this important date in your diary. We'll see you there!
