Film: 'The End of the Line' - Kangaroo Island Yacht Club
Join us at this special advanced screening ...

- Hunted almost to extinction in the 19th century, the endangered Australian Sea Lion is still being caught today as by-catch in shark fishing nets. This iconic marine mammal along with many other species will benefit from a network of large marine sanctuaries in South Australian and adjacent commonwealth waters. Photo: Valerie Taylor.
Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, The End of the Line uses brilliant underwater footage, sweeping cinematography and interviews with world leading scientists, activists and fishermen to reveal the devastating impacts of overfishing in our oceans whilst offerring a message of hope for the future.
Featuring a locally sourced sustainable seafood BBQ, music, activities for the kids and a short presentation about how to protect our unique marine life, this special event offers a fun & informative afternoon for the whole family.
Where: Kangaroo Island Yacht Club, Bronlow Road, Kingscote
When: 3pm, Sunday 10 January 2010
Cost: Free Film + BBQ available for purchase
Did you know South Australia is home to a far greater level of unique marine life than the Great Barrier Reef? Up to 90% of our marine species are unique to southern Australia yet less than 1% of our waters are fully protected.
Our coastal lifestyle is the envy of the world but development, pollution, fishing and climate change are putting increasing stress on our favourite places. We need to protect our coasts and oceans now, before it's too late.
Marine sanctuaries are like "national parks in the sea" - they will help replenish fish stocks, boost our Tourism industry and provide our unique marine life with a much needed refuge from harm.
