NSW marine volunteers

The NSW marine campaign needs help from passionate ocean lovers throughout NSW. Help secure the protection of our valuable marine environment for future generations by getting involved in this important conservation campaign in your local community.

Volunteer your time for our oceans
Volunteering is a valuable way to apply your talents to an important cause, learn new skills and meet other like-minded nature lovers. The work of volunteers is vital in the campaign to protect our world-class marine environment, and we can help tailor a volunteer project to meet your interests.

Organising wilderness trips or fundraisers, researching an important marine area, running creative media stunts, organising workshops or childrens education programs and doing behind-the-scenes work in administration are just a few ways you can get involved.

Have something else in mind? Contact Community Campaigner Katherine Negrin to discuss with us your vision for our oceans.

Spread the word
Help is needed all over NSW to raise awareness in local communities about the importance of marine protection, particularly in coastal areas. Start a wilderness group in your town or suburb, organise a film night or fundraiser, wilderness walks (or swims!), an information evening or wilderness festival. Coordinatie a group of friends to letterbox in your area or distribute information to local businesses.

If you live in Sydney or Newcastle, come along to a fortnightly Wilderness Action Group (WAG) meeting, drop into your local Campaign Centre, or call (02) 4929 4395 for more information.

Join the letter writing network
The marine letter writing tree is a network of people throughout NSW who raise awareness for marine protection through local media. This might include writing letters, signing and distributing petitions, cyber-activism, letters to editors, blogs, chatrooms and media monitoring. To be involved in this network contact your nearest campaign centre or email Katherine Negrin.

Small ways you can make a BIG difference
• Write to your local MP asking for better protection for the NSW marine environment.
• Receive regular updates about the campaign via email. Email Katherine Negrin to sign up to receive your monthly email update.
• Look after our local marine wildlife. Enjoy wilderness-friendly activities like snorkeling, diving or surfing and minimise your impact on oceans, marine habitat and beaches.
