Hunted almost to extinction in the 19th century, the endangered Australian Sea Lion is still being caught today as by-catch in shark fishing nets. This iconic marine mammal along with many other species will benefit from a network of large marine sanctuaries in South Australian and adjacent commonwealth waters. Photo: Valerie Taylor.

Premiered at Sundance Film Festival this year, the powerful new film The End of the Line uses brilliant underwater footage, sweeping cinematography and interviews with world leading scientists, activists and fishermen to tell the story of the devastating impacts of overfishing on our oceans and the simple solutions to the problem.

Featuring a short presentation and discussion forum on the benefits of large marine sanctuaries in helping to secure a healthy future for our marine environment, this screening is a must-see event for all South Australians with an interest in marine conservation.

Where: Mercury Cinema, 13 Morphett St, Adelaide

When: 2pm, Sunday 18 October

RSVP Essential: contact (08) 8231 6586 or sa@wilderness.org.au

Entry: $10 donation

Did you know South Australia is home to a far greater level of unique marine life than the Great Barrier Reef? Up to 90% of our marine species are unique to southern Australia yet less than 1% of our waters are fully protected.

Right now the State and Federal Government’s are considering the future of our amazing marine region and we could see the establishment of large marine sanctuaries which will help ensure the long-term survival of our unique marine life.
