Top End Sea Life Worth Protecting!

The Wilderness Society Archive - This page is over one year old. Links and content may no longer be accurate.

Northern Australia’s ‘Top End Seas’ - the Timor Sea, the Arafura Sea and the Gulf of Carpentaria - are one of the last relatively healthy tropical marine ecosystems left in the world yet less than 0.1% is protected in sanctuaries!  The sea life inhabiting this region includes endangered whales, dolphins, turtles, sea snakes and so much more.

The Australian Government has committed to delivering a network of marine sanctuaries across the Top End by the end of this financial year and The Wilderness Society wants the government to ensure that this network is on par with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

We need your support!  Please take 5 minutes to send an email to the Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett (peter.garrett.mp@aph.gov.au) requesting that the Top End Sea Life be afforded the same level of protection as the Great Barrier Reef!
