How many hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars is Tony Abbott prepared to pour down the bottomless pit labelled northern development to keep Barnaby Joyce and Bill Heffernan happy? Unfortunately it looks like the sky is the limit following reports that Team Abbott is refloating harebrain schemes to farm northern Australia by damming the rivers of the Top End.

Rinyirru is home to spectacular and abundant bird life, beautiful lakes and waterholes and is choc full of saltwater crocodiles. In late June 2011, the ownership and management of this special place was returned to its Traditional Owners after a 30 year campaign.

Wild Rivers safe…for now - March 28, 2011

In the days preceding the vote, Nick Xenophon’s office was bombarded with almost 2500 emails from our supporters calling on him to reject the Abbott Bill. An announcement that the vote has now been postponed until 10 May 2011 indicates that Senator Xenophon received the message loud and clear.
