Advocacy Gifts: Advocating for Wilderness
There are many ways to get involved in our campaigns, from membership, donating, volunteering or becoming a cyberactivist. However, for people with the opportunity and desire to make a larger contribution, we’ve created the Advocacy Gifts program.
Advocacy Gifts are donation of more than $3,000 in any financial year and play a significant role in helping the Wilderness Society achieve campaign outcomes. Over the years, Advocacy Gifts have contributed to scientific and market research, supported community education, outreach and blockade support, and helped pay for TV, print and cinema advertising.
As a direct result of Advocacy Gifts, some of Australia’s most extraordinary wilderness areas are now better protected for future generations. Some of the campaign successes Advocacy Gifts have contributed to include protecting Ningaloo Reef, stopping the construction of the Tilegara Dam in NSW, and helping the Wilderness Society survive an attack from Gunns to continue our campaign for Tasmania's forests.
Personalised
We can personalise your Advocacy Gift by directing it towards a specific campaign or activity that is close to your heart.
To help you decide where your Advocacy Gift is best placed, we can provide you with a short, detailed proposal including an overview of current campaigns and associated costs.
We can also arrange for you to meet with one of our experienced campaigners to discuss your particular environmental interests.
Results
Before you make your Advocacy Gift we will agree on a timetable of reporting which will include evidence that your funded activity has taken place, a summary of its impact on campaign outcomes, and a final acquittal report.
You can also talk with us about how you would like to be kept up-to-date on your chosen campaign.
Campaigns that currently require Advocacy Gifts include:
- The Kimberley (including the James Price Point Gas Hub campaign)
- Cape York Peninsula (World Heritage and Wild Rivers campaigns)
- Tasmania's Forests (protecting over 400,000 hectares of high conservation value forests from being logged for woodchips)
- Victoria's Forests (protecting the last remaining habitat of endangered species like the Leadbeater’s Possum)
