It was the perfect day to travel to Melbourne's vibrant Footscray Community Arts Centre on the Maribyrnong River for Forever Wild's annual campaign update. This year guests were treated to gorgeous sunshine and presentations from three of the Wilderness Society's talented campaigners.

Luke Chamberlain, Victorian Campaigns Manager, spoke of his journey with our ongoing Victorian Forest Campaign. Newly appointed National Forests Campaign Manager, Warrick Jordan, spoke particularly of Tasmanian forestry issues and the challenges presented in a state where the community is so polarised on the matter.

Finally we got to hear from Victorian Campaigner Richard Hughes who has been involved in the Royal Commission on the Black Saturday Fires and subsequent scientific studies into tracking the natural habitat of animals in fire prone areas in line with planned burns.

There was much animated discussion about the merits of the tourism industry as a way of supporting wilderness as well as guests sharing their own stories of activism and their favorite wild places around Australia.

These events occur annually in every state, so have a look at the Bequests Events page for the next one in your area or contact bequests@wilderness to register you interest in these updates or other day trips to campaign hot spots.
