Legacy options - ways to include wilderness in your Will
You don’t have to be wealthy to leave a gift that will make a difference to ensuring the preservation of Australia’s stunning natural environment. There are many different types of gifts you can leave to ensure that your family and loved ones are looked after and that your wishes are met whilst helping to protect Australia’s remaining wild places.
Residual gift in your Will
After providing for your loved ones and paying all debts, the remainder of your estate can be left to the Wilderness Society. If you have family and friends to look after, this is often the best option as it prioritises them first and the Wilderness Society after everything else is settled.
Percentage gift in your Will
Leaving a certain predetermined percentage of your estate to the Wilderness Society assures that inflation will not reduce the value of the bequest you intended to work for wilderness protection.
Cash gift in your Will
You may designate that a specific sum of money be given to the Wilderness Society in your Will. However, this option is susceptible to value reduction due to inflation over the years.
Specific gift in your Will
You may designate that a specific item such as personal property ( e.g. Real estate, artwork, jewellery) be given to The Wilderness Society, provided that we are given permission to sell the item to raise cash funds for campaigning to protect wilderness.
Contingent gift in your Will
This is a bequest made on the condition that a certain event must occur before distribution to the beneficiary if your spouse passes away before you.
Life Insurance and Superannuation Polices
The Wilderness Society can be the beneficiary of a life insurance or superannuation policy (subject to the terms of the policy).
An Important note on Property Bequests
The Wilderness Society welcomes property and land bequests, provided we are given permission to sell the land. If you have land you would like protected, placing a conservation covenant on land ensures that the flora and fauna, water quality and the natural diversity of the land will be protected in perpetuity.
