<p><strong>Are you a passionate environmentalist with campaigning &amp; staff management skills, looking for an exciting opportunity in Cairns?</strong></p>
<p>The Cairns Campaign Manager position is a 
senior campaigner role with management responsibilities. The Cairns 
Centre plays a critical role in the Wilderness Society’s Cape York 
campaigns. This position is part of a dedicated, passionate and 
successful campaign team and is a key driver in achieving successful 
environmental outcomes on Cape York and other important campaigns.</p>
<p>&nbsp;The primary purposes of the position are to:</p>
<ol><li>
<p>Take a leadership role in Far North Queensland (FNQ)/Cape York-based 
campaigning work as part of the Wilderness Society’s overarching ‘Caring
 for Cape York’ Campaign Plan, with a particular focus on Cape York 
World Heritage</p>
</li><li>
<p>Further develop the profile of TWSQ in Cairns 
and FNQ including through media, communications, public engagement, 
lobbying and networking.</p>
</li><li>
<p>Manage and provide support to the Cairns staff and Centre under the auspices of the Cairns Centre Operations Plan</p>
</li></ol>
<p>The secondary roles of 
the position are to undertake activities in support of TWSQ’s 
Organisational Planning, Personnel and Fundraising processes, and 
perform functions under other TWS campaigns in FNQ or organizational 
development work, as required and negotiated.</p>
<p>This position would suit 
someone with a combined management and campaigning background, looking 
for new challenges and opportunities for achievement.</p>

<p><strong>Notice of vacancies (4) for The Wilderness Society Victoria Committee of Management</strong><br /><br />The Wilderness Society (TWS) is a national, community-based, environmental advocacy organisation whose purpose is to protect, promote and restore wilderness and natural processes across Australia for the survival and ongoing evolution of life on Earth.</p>
<p>The TWS group comprises a number of separately incorporated organisations and has Campaign Centres located in all capital cities (except Darwin) and a number of regional centres. Each of those campaign centres has responsibility for their own governance arrangements in accordance with the relevant legislation. In Victoria, TWS is incorporated under the <em>Associations Incorporation Act </em>1981 and has a voluntary, skills-based Committee of Management.&nbsp; The responsibilities of the Committee members include governing the organisation in accordance with the legislation, the Rules of Association, the Role of the Board Policy and any other duties or policies that arise from time to time.</p>
<p>Currently, the Committee is seeking a secretary, a treasurer and two ordinary members, to fill the legal and governance portfolios, to complement its existing skill set. The Committee is seeking applications from individuals with 3-5 years experience in <strong>organisational governance</strong>, <strong>administration</strong> or <strong>accounting policies and procedures</strong> who are committed to putting their energy, ideas and skills towards protecting, promoting and restoring wilderness for future generations. <br />Applicants should have a commitment to the vision and activities of TWS and strong inter-personal and networking skills.</p>
<p>The Committee would also welcome individuals with:</p>
<ul><li>environmental leadership experience in environmental science, policy development and/or community activism; and/or</li><li>sector knowledge – experience in similar community organisations or the not-for-profit sector
</li></ul>
<p>Becoming a Committee member requires the following commitment:</p>
<ul><li> Approximately 10 hours a month including Committee meetings</li><li>Attendance and active participation at monthly Committee meetings and the AGM&nbsp;</li><li>Willingness to actively serve on at least one sub-committee, project or advisory role&nbsp;</li><li>Attendance at annual strategy days&nbsp;</li><li>Public and professional support of TWS and its activities</li></ul>

<p><b>Offer of Placement - Activist Exchange Program</b></p>
<p>The Wilderness Society would like to invite dedicated volunteers and activists from across Australia to apply for a 3 week activist exchange program in South Australia for the period of 22nd February to 14th March 2012.</p>
<p>This exchange program has been timed to cover Adelaide’s major festival events including the renowned Fringe festival and the world music festival WOMADelaide.</p>
<p>The Exchange Program aims to increase the integration between different parts of The Wilderness Society and the environment movement. Participants will benefit from opportunities to learn new skills, undertake personal growth and develop confidence in campaigning and activism. The program is also a great way to reward people for their ongoing dedication and achievements within The Wilderness Society.</p>
<p>Travel costs will be paid for by The Wilderness Society, an accommodation allowance of up to $150 and a volunteer allowance of $200 will be allocated weekly for the duration of the program placement.</p>

<p><b>Where:</b> Adelaide, South Australia<br /><b>When:</b> 22 February – 14 March<br /><b>Duration:</b> 3 weeks<br /><br /><b>The Position: </b> Community Campaigns Assistant.<br /><b>Responsible to:</b> Community Outreach Coordinator<br /><br /><b>Tasks Involved:</b><br />various community campaigning activities including;</p>
<ul>
<li>Participate in the Fringe Opening Night Parade</li>
<li>Prop making and banner painting</li>
<li>Assist in creation and implementation of media actions </li>
<li>Assist with logistics, organisation and implementation of the community campaign outreach stalls at WOMADelaide and other events as in the community outreach strategic plan</li>
<li>Engage with the community communicating key campaign messages</li>
<li>Assist with coordination of the volunteer action group</li>
</ul>
<p><br /><b>Skills required: </b></p>
<ul>
<li>Drivers license essential</li>
<li>Basis Computer skills essential (excel, word, internet)</li>
<li>Good communication skills essential</li>
<li>Innovative, creative and artistic ability highly desirable</li>
<li>Experience coordinating volunteers desirable</li>
</ul>

<li>have an ability to quickly grasp the essentials of the TWS SA campaigns.</li>
