Land Clearing

Every year tens of thousands of hectares of Australian bushland are bulldozed, chained or poisoned to 'improve' land for forestry and agriculture. This is particularly the case in NT, Tasmania and parts of NSW. Clearing is a significant threat to wildlife and source of greenhouse gas emissions.

Onshore oil and gas tenements in the Kimberley, covering an area the size of the UK (24,000,000 hectares), is now under the control of just three mining companies. This massive increase in oil and gas tenements highlights that the proposed industrial complex at James Price Point is the first of many threats facing the Kimberley.
There is growing concern in Western Australia about the combined impacts of logging, burning, mining, declining rainfall and introduced pests and diseases on the state’s long list of endangered species. Unfortunately the current government has little interest in protecting the forests and wildlife that make WA unique, preferring instead to ‘let the dozers and chainsaws rip’!
A proposed barrier fence along the interface between the Great Western Woodlands and the southern edge of the West Australian Wheatbelt is threatening the Woodlands with further habitat fragmentation and destruction. The proposal involves 6000 ha of clearing and chaining, and the isolation of 300,000 ha of bush.
Your voice is powerful. Let our political leaders know they must protect the best of Queensland’s environment.
