Some Australian icons bring together people from all walks of life! With the fate of Australia’s unique Travelling Stock Routes (TSR) Network in the balance, an alliance of drovers, graziers and conservation groups, including The Wilderness Society, has been formed to champion its long-term protection.
Thousands of people across NSW and the rest of Australia have written to the NSW government over the past month, demanding it take action to protect the River Red Gum Forests of the Murray region. Now, two new reports show that the logging is both uneconomic and in some areas, illegal.

The winners of the Red Gum Kids Colouring competition have been announced. We'd like to thank all the schools who participated in this event, and particularly the thousands of kids who went to such a fantastic effort to draw attention to the plight of the River Red Gums. For six weeks during August and September, the GetUp Climate Torch Relay is touring right across Australia. The Relay came to the Williams River on August 24th where The Wilderness Society, along with members of the local community, organised a leg of the relay and acted as torch-bearers.

The WildEndurance Awards Night, held at the James Squire Brewhouse on Darling Habour on June 12th was a great success.
NSW Minister for the Environment, Verity Firth, spoke today with NSW Campaign Manager, Timothy King, at a land clearing protest organised by the Sydney Campaign Centre.
Despite a rather stormy start to this year’s World Ocean day - Sunday June 8th – the day’s events attracted over 200 people from our Newcastle community who rugged up for the fun.
The Blue Mountains turned on ideal weather conditions for The Wilderness Society’s inaugural WildEndurance event over the weekend of 3-4 May, 2008.
