The aptly named Dogged Determined trotted over the line after 39 hours and 13 minutes, some way behind the line winners, Team Warrior, finished the 100kms in just over 12 hours - smashing the previous record by four hours. Teams can compete as two teams of three in 50km relays or a team of four for the 100km event. Nearly 500 people took part in this year’s event, an increase of 50% on the previous year.

This year saw a few more serious trail runners, but the majority was content to walk the course; the average time for completion being just over 23 hours. It is a real achievement for all the competitors who finished as, in addition to the 100km, there was a cumulative climb of nearly 3,000 metres (a third of the way up Everest) and a descent of about 2,500 metres. All of this taking place in the magnificent Blue Mountains National Park which provided a stunning scenic backdrop to the event.

WildEndurance is the major fund raising event of the Sydney campaign centre. This year the level of income grew by 80% reflecting the use of a dedicated WildEndurance team; over $340,000 in registration fees and donations has been raised this year. None of this would be possible without the hard work of the Sydney campaign centre staff, the dedicated WildEndurance team and all the volunteers. Over 70 volunteers were needed during the weekend of the event and many man hours were put in by volunteers leading up to the event.

If you would like to take part next year either in the event itself or as a volunteer, please contact: wildendurance@wilderness.org.au and we will contact you for WildEndurance 2011.
