We'll be having a Wilderness Action Group meeting on Wednesday 18th at 6pm at our new office at 67 Boundary St (Upstairs), West End (next to Coles carpark). We hope you can make it along to talk about this next and very important phase of the election campaign.

We will be marching through the streets of Brisbane and then creating a human sign in the shape of a huge water droplet. Throughout all of this there will be speakers, entertainment and heaps of information stalls.

What you can do:
•    Wear blue (to symbolize water) to the event, or bring some blue material to wave to the TV choppers
•    Create a banner or placard that expresses how you feel about the coal or CSG industry and the impacts it has on our water
•    Spread the word and encourage your friends and family to join in!

The Annual General Meeting is a key point for members to become informed members. Please join us and meet the management committee and staff, we’d love to see you!

Visit the majestic Mossman Gorge, walk along the Mossman River and look at rainforest from the ground and from the elevated boardwalk.

We will drive north across the Daintree River and visit the lowland rainforests of the Daintree, where the forest meets the reef. This is the only place in the world where two World Heritage Areas meet side by side; the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef. Look out for cassowaries, or birds of paradise. We will take a leisurely afternoon stroll through the most primitive forest in the world and identify plants from all stages of plant evolution. We will see tall rainforests, ancient ferns, vines and fresh flowing streams. Cairns Centre Coordinator Jeremy Little will guide and educate you on rainforests and the evolution of Australia’s wildlife.

Join Glenn Walker our Wild Rivers Campaigner and long term member, Landscape Architect and avid trail blazer Barbara Steiner on this breathtaking walk.

Spring is the perfect time to take in all Mt Cordeaux has to offer with its impressive spring flora. This is a great opportunity to see a stunning part of Queensland.

Glenn will discuss the spectacular Cape York and our campaigns to protect the region and support local communities to better manage their land. He'll talk about the alarming new coal rush that we've just uncovered on the Cape, and the urgency of campaigning to stop this sort of mining happening in this beautiful region. Barbara will educate us on the unique flora of this particular mountain range.

The Wilderness Society Qld will be at the Griffith University Climate Action Group Green Market Day at the Griffith University Nathan Campus on 23 August 2011. Green Market Day is a major one-day event themed around ecological sustainability (including business sustainability).

The event connects organisations and businesses with the university's students and staff.

There will be sustainable food and products, exhibits and speeches; market stalls, along with music and other entertainment. Drop by our stall for a chat and find out how we can protect the best of Queensland’s amazing wild places.

We'll be there 9am – 4pm so hope to see you there!

The 2011 Climate Action Summit will be held in Melbourne from the 9th to 11th of April.

Featuring dozens of inspiring talks and skill-building workshops, this year’s event focuses on the theme ‘From the Ground Up’ and is a great opportunity to share information and collaborate to build the community movement for real action on climate change. 

On Monday the 11th participants will come together as a diverse movement to take part in an inspiring ‘No New Carbon’ action in Melbourne’s CBD.  Monday afternoon will provide an opportunity to present the outcomes of the summit and to relax and mingle with experienced climate campaigners over a few drinks.

For waged participants, the conference is $50 for Saturday and Sunday, or $25 for one day only.  If you’re not working, then it’s $10 per day.  There’s also a delicious low cost lunch available for $8 per day, which can be paid for online.
