Get involved - Queensland

The Wilderness Society Queensland's Brisbane training weekend
The Wilderness Society staff and volunteers - Christmas Wild Rivers Action

Why get involved with The Wilderness Society Brisbane?

This is going to be a very exciting, successful and busy year for The Wilderness Society Brisbane, and we want you to get involved. There are a number of ways you can lend your support to the work that we do - read on to find out how you can help.

Wild Rivers
This year we have seen the declaration of three amazing Wild Rivers on Cape York, the Archer, Stewart and Lockhart Rivers and need your help to make sure the Wenlock River is next.

Cape York Peninsula
The Wilderness Society campaigns to protect the world-class natural and cultural values of Cape York Peninsula. We have been working toward protection of this amazingly diverse and important region for more than 10 years, and many opportunities currently exist to achieve successful conservation wins for the Cape. We need your help to keep up the momentum and protect the Cape.

We need your help as a volunteer
Without our volunteers we could not achieve the amazing work we carry out to protect our WildCountry day after day. Your volunteered time, passion, skills and ideas will help ensure the success of our campaigns. In return you will be a part of a dynamic campaign environment, learn new skills and share the exhilaration of our achievements.

Upcoming Events

There is a National Climate Emergency Rally being held in Brisbane on June 13th at 1pm in Queens Park, Brisbane which The Wilderness Society is also attending. We would love more volunteers to attend the rally with us.

Please contact us if you are interested in helping out on either of these events.

There are 2 primary ways of volunteering with The Wilderness Society:

1. Join The Wilderness Society Queensland's Wilderness Action Group (WAG)

The Wilderness Society's WAG has played a vital part in the success of The Wilderness Society's campaigns over many years. WAG members assist in areas such as campaign strategy, event planning & coordination and community education & outreach (including manning stalls)

WAG Brisbane meets fortnightly on Wednesday  6.00 pm - 8.00 pm
at the TWS Office, 2/136 Boundary St, West End (above Vinnies)

2. Volunteer for specific roles and projects

Volunteers bring a broad range of skills and fresh ideas to support staff and invigorate campaigns. At The Wilderness Society, we know it is important that we match people’s time availability and skills to specific roles and projects.

The following specific volunteer roles are needed for the Brisbane Campaign Centre.  We appreciate whatever time you have available and respect that your availability may change and depend on your other commitments and responsibilities. This list is not exhaustive, and if you wish to volunteer in another area, please contact us to find out how your skills can help

· Stalls Coordinator & people to staff stalls
· Submission & Research Assistant
· Administration / Office Assistant
· Event Planning & Coordinating
· Layout and Design Artist
