Marine Sanctuaries Great for our State
The Wilderness Society today congratulated the Weatherill Government for having the vision to protect some of South Australia’s iconic and important marine areas in Sanctuaries.
“This is one of the most significant conservation initiatives in the state’s history” said Campaign Manager Peter Owen.
"Marine Sanctuaries are proven to protect marine life and generate economic and social benefits".
"It’s great to see spectacular places such as the Nuyts Reef, Isles of St Francis, Pearson Island, areas around Kangaroo Island and the Coorong Coast protected in Sanctuaries. They are the Arkaroolas and Wilpena Pounds of the marine environment"
"Sanctuaries are an investment in our future. Healthy coastal waters will be of great benefit to everyone".
“This initiative is a truly great step for South Australia” he said.
