Migrating oceanic sharks less protected than ever! - February 19, 2010
Populations of sharks are declining worldwide. Sharks continue to be at risk internationally from over-fishing, illegal trade (e.g. shark fins), habitat degradation, incidental bycatch as well as emerging threats such as climate change. Despite supporting their listings as internationally vulnerable on the IUCN red list and the Australian Government’s commitment to international shark protection and conservation, Environment Minister Peter Garrett suddenly changed his mind.

Western Blue Groper - bring the BIG boys back! - February 17, 2010
The Western Blue Groper is a protogynous hermaphrodite. This means all juveniles are females and mature as green-coloured females at 15-20 years old, before developing their adult male blue colouring at 30 years old.

SA Government announces proposal for the Nuyts Archipelago and the Investigator Group of Islands to become Wilderness Protection Areas. - December 20, 2009
The South Australian Goverment has announced a proposal for the Nuyts Archipelago and Investigator Group of Islands on the State's Far West Coast to become Wilderness Protection Aareas. The Government is seeking public comment on the proposal and submissions are due on 5 February 2010.

The Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary is under threat from uranium exploration - September 11, 2009
The Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary is under threat from uranium exploration. Mining company, Marathon Resources, has held a five year mineral exploration lease over 9000 hectares in the heart of the Sanctuary that is set to expire on 10 October this year.
