Thousands join the Walk Against Warming across Australia
Over 15,000 people across Australia marched together in the Walk Against Warming yesterday in protest over the political inaction against climate change.

In capital cities and regional centres across the country the Wilderness Society was thrilled to be joined by so many supporters. Spreading the messages, “Say no to burning our native forests for electricity,” “Fighting global warming starts with saving forests,” and “Walk with the people, not the big polluters,” the Wilderness Society was out in force in support of the role our environment has to play in combating climate change.
In Sydney the marchers were kept dancing by the Wilderness Society Samba Band who were such a hit they were invited up on stage to perform for the crowds. In Brisbane, Hayley the Palm Cockatoo kept her feet on the ground, walking along with our wild supporters. Hobart was also happening, with over a thousand people walking together against warming.
As part of the walks, speakers took to the stages with messages on why a healthy environment is important in the solution to climate change.
“Protecting Australia’s forests would reduce greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere by up to 136 million tonnes every year – more pollution than nine of the country’s dirtiest coal fired power stations produce every year,” said Emma Anglesey on the day, spokesperson for Environment Tasmania.
“Walk Against Warming was really colourful and with so many people, the end of the march was far in the distance,” Tarquin Moon, Wilderness Society, Brisbane.

“Its great to see so many people out here demanding real national leadership on our environment” Glenn Walker, Wild Rivers Campaigner, the Wilderness Society.
Climate Change has consistently ranked in the top ten issues for voters in federal and state elections in Australia, and this march comes at an important time for Australians as we head to the polls next Saturday, August 21.
The Wilderness Society would like to say a big thank you to everyone who joined us on the streets yesterday.
