The Great Suburban Walk

There’s a federal election on its way, yet our political leaders continue to backflip, delay and deny on climate change. With so much at stake, it’s time for the community to put climate action back on the election agenda.

On Sunday 15 August the Wilderness Society, Environment Victoria and the Victorian climate movement is holding the 2010 Walk Against Warming to demand that our political leaders face up to their responsibility on climate change. We’ll remind them that to secure our votes, they must ‘Walk with the People, Not the Big Polluters’.

Starting at 12.30pm, we’ll be coming together at central locations in each of the four electorates to send a strong message to local political parties. At the rallying point there will be speakers and stalls. We’ll then be hitting the streets to letterbox the electorates with maps in hand and each walker with a designated area. We’ll be walking in pairs or small groups, so don’t just register by yourself - get your friends and family to register too.

This approach will maximise the political impact of the Walk against Warming while maintaining a unifying national community call for action. By doing this, our message we will reach 400,000 of the most influential voters in Victoria. The electorates we are working in are Melbourne, LaTrobe and Deakin.

This election be part of the call for climate action. Please register for The Walk Against Warming at www.walkagainstwarming.org.au
