Premier Barnett receives thousands of Kimberley messages

The Kimberley - too precious for polluting industry

Josh-Kimberley-Postcards-Dec09-300Today, 15th December, The Wilderness Society delivered a giant christmas present to Premier Barnett personally - filled with the signatures of thousands of people who want a better future for the Kimberley, one that doesn't involve plans for massive industrial projects across this unique environment.

The Premier addressed the group of people gathered, acknowledging that we have strong views opposing the proposed industrial site at James Price Point but pledging to protect 'the rest of the Kimberley'. The Premier spoke to supporters about his Government's commitment to a Kimberley Wilderness Park to protect large areas of the Kimberley's terrestrial environment, and stated that he expected the Camden Sound Marine Park would deliver significant sanctuary zones.

However, it is of deep concern that the Premier remains convinced there will be no environmental impact from an industrial site at James Price Point, despite the fact that the environment assessments (required under State and Federal legislation) have not been completed.

The Christmas present contained 2500 signed petitions from supporters, which forms part of over 20,000 items of correspondence we have now received and forwarded on your behalf!
