Annual General Meeting 2020
Our valued Members are encouraged to participate in our election process and attend our 2020 Annual General Meeting.
Since 1976, with the support of our Members, The Wilderness Society has stood at the forefront of Australia’s most historic environmental victories. From the Franklin River, to Fraser Island, to Tasmania’s forests, to the Kimberley, to the Great Australian Bight and numerous World Heritage Areas like Ningaloo Reef and Shark Bay, we’re focussed on bigger picture outcomes. Everyday we work to fulfill our Purpose of protecting, promoting and restoring wilderness and natural processes across Australia for the survival and ongoing evolution of life on earth. As a Member, you are a vital part of a broader movement making this happen.
Each year Members participate in the election of our Board of Directors. The nomination and election process is designed to promote broad geographic representation and elected Directors must come from at least four of the following six regions: Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales; Queensland; Northern Territory and South Australia; Tasmania; Victoria; and Western Australia.
This year the elected Directors who will be retiring, and who are able to renominate, are Stuart Baird from Tasmania and Craig Zanker from Victoria, opening two (2) Director positions for election. Our continuing elected Directors are Leanne Craze, Coral Robinson, Sam Rando, Amanda Branley and Lisa Roberts. These Directors are joined by appointed Director, Ben Holgate, who advises on fundraising strategy.
In 2020, Directors may be elected from any of the following five regions: Queensland; Northern Territory and South Australia; Tasmania; Victoria; and Western Australia.
The Wilderness Society Ltd operates nationally with Campaigning, Organising, Communications, Membership, Fundraising and Business Operations arms that work across several locations. The Board maintains oversight of all these activities and looks for particular skills or experience in governance leadership; finance; and/or legal expertise.
The Wilderness Society is calling for nominations from Members for the position of Director. A nominations briefing will be provided for interested Members outlining details on roles, responsibilities and expectations of the Board of Directors. If as a Member you are interested in nominating, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 1800 030 641 for further nomination details.
Nominations open at 9am on Thursday, 17 September and close at 5pm AEDT on Thursday, 22 October 2020.
Election voting opens on Thursday, 29 October 2020 when candidate information and voting material will be made available here.
Voting will close at 5pm AEDT on Thursday, 19 November 2020.
The results of the election will be notified to Members at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 26 November 2020 at 6:30pm AEDT. Details of how you can attend the meeting will be available here from 29 October 2020. In light of COVID-19, arrangements for Members to participate in the AGM remotely are being investigated, including holding it as a ‘virtual’ meeting.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support as a Member, to encourage you to participate as a candidate, and take part in our 2020 Director election process.
Yours for nature,
The Wilderness Society
