Annual General Meeting 2021
All of our Members are encouraged to participate in our election process and attend our 2021 Annual General Meeting.
Since 1976, with the support of our Members, the Wilderness Society has stood at the forefront of Australia’s most historic environmental victories. From the Franklin River, to Fraser Island, to Tasmania’s forests, to the Kimberley, to the Great Australian Bight and numerous World Heritage Areas, such as Ningaloo, we’re focussed on bigger picture outcomes.
Every day we work to fulfill our Purpose of protecting, promoting and restoring wilderness and natural processes across Australia for the survival and ongoing evolution of life on earth. As a Member, you are a vital part of a broader movement making this happen.
Each year Members participate in the election of our Board of Directors. The nomination and election process is designed to promote broad geographic representation and elected Directors must come from at least four of the following six regions: Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales; Queensland; Northern Territory and South Australia; Tasmania; Victoria; and Western Australia.
This year the elected Directors who will be retiring, and who are eligible to renominate, are Leanne Craze and Coral Robinson from New South Wales, and Amanda Branley from Western Australia, opening three Director positions for election. Our continuing elected Directors are Lisa Roberts, Gabrielle Appleby, Andrew Barker and Sam Rando; the Board currently has one skills-based, appointed Director, Karl Tischler.
In 2021, Directors may be elected from any of the following five regions: New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory; Queensland; Northern Territory and South Australia; Tasmania; and Western Australia.
The Wilderness Society Ltd operates nationally with Campaigning, Organising, Communications, Membership, Fundraising and Business Operations arms which work across several locations. The Board maintains oversight of all these activities and is looking for diversity of experience to meet its responsibilities, and are particularly interested for those with experience in governance leadership and advocacy to apply.
An inclusive and representative Board is important to increase our reach to all Australians—individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, First Nations people, and those from regional Australia, are encouraged to nominate for election.Nominations have closed for the 2021 Election of Directors
