Annual General Meetings 2023
All of our Members are encouraged to participate in our election process and attend our Annual General Meetings.
Since 1976, with the support of our Members, the Wilderness Society has stood at the forefront of Australia’s most historic environmental victories. From the Franklin River to K'gari, to the forests of Lutruwita / Tasmania, the Kimberley and the Great Australian Bight, we’re focussed on bigger-picture outcomes, such as the recently announced end to native forest logging in Victoria. Every day we work to fulfil our Purpose of protecting, promoting and restoring wilderness and natural processes across Australia for the survival and ongoing evolution of life on Earth. As a Member, you are a vital part of a broader movement making this happen.
Election of Directors 2023—The Wilderness Society Ltd

All of our Members are encouraged to participate in our election of Directors and attend our 2023 Annual General Meeting.
Each year Members participate in the election of our Board of Directors. The nomination and election processes are designed to promote broad geographic representation and Elected Directors must come from at least four of the following six regions: Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales; Queensland; Northern Territory and South Australia; Tasmania; Victoria; and Western Australia.
This year the Elected Director who will be retiring is Andrew Barker from Victoria, with Andrew eligible to renominate. Directors may be elected from any of the six regions listed above.
An inclusive and representative Board is necessary to increase our reach to all Australians. We encourage people from diverse backgrounds to apply. Diversity includes gender, LGBTQI+, age, First Nations people, persons from different cultures/religions and differing physical abilities (including neuro-diversity). Geo-diversity is also important and people from regional Australia are encouraged to nominate for election.
The Wilderness Society is calling for nominations from Members for the position of Elected Director. A nominations package will be provided for interested Members outlining details on the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the Board of Directors. If, as a Member, you are interested in serving on our Board to further The Wilderness Society’s Purpose, please contact executive.officer@wilderness.org.au or call 1800 030 641 for nomination details. Members expressing interest will have the opportunity to discuss expectations and suitability with the Board’s Nominations Panel before nominating.
Nominations are now open, closing at 5pm AEDT Wednesday, 25 October 2023.
This year our Board will be recommending some technical changes to The Wilderness Society Ltd Constitution to continue with the Constitutional Review process that began in 2022. More details will be available closer to the Annual General Meeting.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support as a Member and to encourage you to participate as a candidate in our 2023 Director election process.
Yours for nature,

Jen Rowe
