On 2 September, the charming children’s bookstore the Little Bookroom hosted the celebration of the 2014 Environmental Awards for Children Literature.

This year, author and illustrator of Animalia and the Eleventh Hour, Graeme Base, spoke to an enthralled crowd about what inspires him to write: Nature.

As he mentioned each one of his books, the children in the audience smiled broadly and whispered to one another “I have that one!”

After the children in attendance showed us their favourite books, we got down to announcing the winners for the award. Unfortunately not all the winners could be in attendance – Christina Booth, winner of the Picture Fiction category, passed on her best wishes to the shortlisted authors and illustrators. However, it was lovely to celebrate with authors Anne Morgan and Rebecca Johnson – joint winners in the Fiction category – as well as author Sally Odgers who was shortlisted for her beautiful picture book Rainforest Lullaby.

Thank you for joining us in honouring these amazing authors and illustrators!
