Finalists announced for the 2023 Environmental Music prize

The finalists for the 2023 Environmental Music Awards have been announced, with artists including King Stingray, Midnight Oil and Flume making the shortlist. Check out a list of the finalists below.

The $20,000 prize amplifies the voices of artists who inspire action for climate and conservation. The Wilderness Society is again proud to be an Impact Partner for the competition, which launched last year.

This year, the Wilderness Society will be co-hosting a Music Conservation Leadership Workshop as part of the Environmental Music Prize. Wilderness Society National Campaigns Director Amelia Young will be giving a talk, as well as a shortlisted artist and founder of the Environmental Music Prize, Edwina Floch.

The workshop takes place on Friday 12 May, 12.30-1.30pm.

Please check out the event page for details on how to attend online.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard won the inaugural prize in 2022, with the public voting the band the winner for the song If Not Now, Then When? They kindly donated the prize money to the Wilderness Society.

The 2023 winner will be announced in June and you now watch the Finalists' music videos before casting your vote. Voting closes 3 June.

Matt Brennan, CEO of the Wilderness Society was on the 2023 shortlisting committee. "Where data, social media or scientific reports may have failed, a song can build movement and power," says Matt. "It can bring communities together to demand more from our politicians and corporations. We need the diverse sounds of the Environmental Music prize to give everyone a way in and find their voice for nature.

"In the face of global environmental challenges music can give more of us the courage to be part of the solution."
