Vale Professor Jamie Kirkpatrick: In awe and with gratitude
In awe and with gratitude
Professor Jamie Kirkpatrick passed away last week, and the Wilderness Society acknowledges and celebrates his enormous contribution to the natural sciences.
An absolute giant in conservation, Jamie dedicated his life to the wonder and protection of wild places.
For decades, Professor Kirkpatrick was a foundation of strength and inspiration to fellow ecologists and conservationists.
Without Jamie's tireless research and advocacy, the 1990's expansion of Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area would not have been possible; nor its defence of the in the face of attacks from the Tony Abbott-led Federal government.
Jamie’s tenacious and good-humoured commitment to the beauty, magnitude and complexity of the flora of Lutriwita / Tasmania is unparalleled.
His passing is a loss to the Tasmanian conservation community, and to the forests themselves.
Vale Professor Jamie Kirkpatrick.
For those in Lutruwita / Tasmania, there is an opportunity to celebrate Jamie’s life and achievements at Cascade Gardens, from 4pm on Friday 1st November.
