Volunteer roles: Committee of Management

Wild at heart?

The Wilderness Society (Tasmania) invites expressions of interest from volunteers to join its Committee of Management.

This includes the key roles of Convenor—equivalent of Chair—and Treasurer.

This is an opportunity to help support, influence and progress campaigns to protect the precious island of lutruwita/Tasmania and be part of one of the continent’s oldest and most influential environmental campaign organisations.

Our Committee of Management (CoM) plays a crucial role in our strategic direction and has oversight over our campaigns.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from people who have the following skills, experience and interests:

  • Demonstrated commitment and passion to the natural environment and wilderness;
  • A commitment to and understanding of good governance and, ideally, previous experience on a board or management committee or similar;
  • Skills and qualifications in financial management and accounting (for the role of Treasurer)
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, business administration and relationship management (for the role of Convenor)

What’s required?

Committee members are expected to commit around 4-6 hours per month.

For the role of Treasurer this increases to about 6-8 hours

For the Convenor, the time commitment is around 8-12 hours. This includes responding to emails, preparing agendas and attending meetings.

There is no requirement to be located in any specific location in Tasmania, however financial membership of the Wilderness Society is required.

Interested?

Send a brief cover letter outlining your skills and experience as related to the position description, and why you would like to join the Committee of Management. Also, provide a copy of your CV. The closing date is 23 November 2022.
