Statement: Pareto Phone data incident
Pareto Phone, who have provided telemarketing services to Wilderness Society, experienced a cyber incident in April following the detection of unusual activity on its network. Pareto Phone’s investigation has identified that one of its file servers was accessed and in August the stolen files may have been published on the dark web.
Unfortunately the identified files include some Wilderness Society supporter data. Pareto Phone has informed us that they have not identified any compromised data files related to Wilderness Society supporters that contain credit card or bank account details.
Please note that the Wilderness Society’s own systems have not been impacted by this incident in any way.
We have communicated with supporters whose information was known to exist on the impacted file server to provide steps to protect their information and avoid any potential scams. The Australian Cyber Security Centre provides advice on what to do if your information is involved in a data breach.
We continue to work closely with Pareto Phone to identify if there are any further impacts to supporters and will update anyone impacted should such information become available.
We take the privacy and the protection of your information very seriously and sincerely regret any distress caused by this incident. Our supporters are the heart of Wilderness Society and your ongoing support is critical to delivering positive outcomes for the animals and places we love.
If you would like to seek or provide more information on this matter, please contact our Supporter Care team on 1800 030 641 or email [email protected]
