The Wilderness Society Ltd performs a range of functions that support the achievement of its Purpose, goals and objectives, operating nationally with Campaigning, Organising, Communications, Membership, Fundraising and Business Operations arms which work across several locations. We recognise that a strong risk culture across all functions is fundamental to long-term success. We seek an experienced subject matter expert to generously volunteer their expertise to enhance our risk methodology.

Expressions of interest are sought from experienced individuals with:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the natural environment.

  • Excellent knowledge of risk management best practice.

  • Experience of developing and implementing risk management policies and processes.

  • Ability to articulate the benefits of effective risk management.

As The Wilderness Society’s Risk Specialist Volunteer, you will:

  • Interrogate our risk registers and associated risk artefacts;

  • Develop and improve policies, processes and activities related to risk;

  • Review and improve The Wilderness Society’s processes for monitoring and reporting of risks; and

  • Provide valuable risk expertise and guidance to Staff, Directors and other stakeholders.

For more than 40 years, the Wilderness Society has stood at the forefront of Australia’s most historical environmental victories. But our biggest challenges lie ahead of us.

Volunteering for this role is a significant contribution to helping us continue our important work. You will be supporting a cause you care about and working collaboratively with engaged and passionate people.

The time commitment sought is approximately 8 hours per week with flexibility.

The Wilderness Society seeks a two-year volunteer term commitment.

There is no requirement to be located in any specific location as The Wilderness Society is a national organisation with staff and directors from across the country.

If you are suitably qualified and have the time and ability to professionally volunteer, please express interest by sending an email outlining your relevant skills and experience and why you would like to volunteer with The Wilderness Society, providing a copy of your CV to Jo Stephen via in the first instance. Should you wish to discuss this opportunity, please email as above and we will be in contact as soon as possible.
